SOCIAL MEDIA TIPS

As of October 2024

What type of content works best for LHC social media?

- Individual video clips showing the top scoring plays, key defensive plays, and special team moments.

- Video content is preferred over pictures.

Key recommendations for the best videos

- Sit at half-court or as close as possible; front row sitting or top row standing are preferred.

- If you are near the baseline or in a corner, focus on the plays on your end of the court.

- Please film horizontally (landscape, sideways), but we will accept vertical/portrait clips.

- Try to keep the camera stable during filming. During a big play, keep the camera focused on the play and then the post-play celebration.

- Be mindful of a referee or nearby fans blocking your view.

- Keep the ball in the middle of the camera frame. For track and CC, keep the LHC student center frame.

- Please keep clip lengths under 60 seconds when possible.

- Please leave 3-4 seconds of video before and after the play.

- Use the standard “1X” zoom as much as possible; zooming often distorts the video

- For basketball, we generally don’t use free throw videos -- but game-winning free throws (with a cheering crowd) are huge.

- If there is a potential big end of game moment, please keep the camera rolling! End of game big shots, buzzer beaters, celebrations, etc. are the holy grail of highlights!

Best smartphone camera settings

- iPhone: "record video" resolution at 1080p HD at 60fps; HDR enabled; record stereo sound

- Android: this varies widely by phone, but select 1080p at 60fps and enable HDR. Newer Samsung Galaxy phones should have "Auto HDR" enabled.

- Some Android smartphones will use the terms "Action", "High Definition", "Game" or "Vivid" modes, which should be used when possible.

- Most smartphone cameras have a grid overlay option which adds a "tic-tac-toe" grid on your camera. The more you keep the ball in the center vertical column of the grid, the more likely your clip can be used.

- Be sure to keep your camera lense clean of finger smudges!

What else do I need to know?

- During a normal week, we post videos on Saturday morning at 9am.

- We accept video clips anytime day or night via text (iPhone & Android) or Google Photos (older Android or DSLR). Anything sent in after Friday evening at 7pm will be held for the following week.

- Send in the best 3-5 plays from your game.

- During tournaments, we put out a video each morning, so timeliness is critical. Please submit clips the same day, even if it's late in the evening.

- If you know the cellular signal is weak in the gym, wait to send the video until you are outside.

- If you captured an end-of-game, game-winning buzzer beater shot, please text me immediately and send in the video ASAP.
